After spending a Sunday by the pool at her childhood home in Malibu, Kaia Gerber shoves her five-minute journal into a prepacked holdall and catches a red glimpse of New York. The 20-year-old model – and face of Marc Jacobs’ Daisy Ever So Fresh – isn’t bringing a single pair of heels with her. “I know I’ll be walking a lot,” she says, explaining that during the weekdays she goes from her classes in Brooklyn to dinner in the West Village before going to a friend’s concert in Terminal 5 (so Celine boots are the ones Movement).
Ahead, Gerber diary a full week of her life. On Mondays, she eats a spoonful of sea moss gel (a new health trend she’s “very into”), and on Saturdays she grabs a breakfast sandwich in her pajamas before getting ready for the theater. Their pace is fast and their recommendations honest. The following was shared with Megan Deck and edited for length and clarity.
I wake up at my parents’ house, which is wonderful – it’s on the beach. I usually wake up early so I have about an hour before the rest of the world is up and I don’t have to go to work yet. I make a matcha and take it outside. I write the five minute journal or five minute stream of consciousness and read a little. I read leave me by Melissa Febos.
My mother wakes up and we go hiking together. We’re doing a little hike in Malibu that’s really beautiful. We take my dog Milo who can overtake me. Then we go and get some smoothies.
I shower and wash my hair. I wash my hair every day – which I know people think about, but that’s what I do. I use Stephen Knoll shampoo and conditioner. Now that I have colored hair, I have to think about what to wash it with. Then I use a coffee scrub. I wash my face with Allies of Skin Cleanser and apply ClearChoice Sunscreen to my face.
I really like this Hamptons Sun Tanning Oil with SPF on my body – it was introduced to me by my dad. I also wear a hat. My face is always five shades lighter than my body. I work at the pool, read scripts and stuff.
On Sunday evenings we have this tradition in my family where we make homemade pizzas. In the evening I wash my face again and do my night routine, which is basically the same every night.
On Monday I wake up in my own house. I have a spoonful of Sea Moss Gel, a new thing that I really like. I train with my wonderful trainer Kirsty [Godso]. Then I’ll go and get a smoothie.
I go home and wash my face. When I work from home I use Allies of Skin Moisturiser, the Peptides & Antioxidants Firming Daily Treatment, it’s great. I work from home, make dinner and get ready for bed.
Here’s my night routine: I wash my face with Allies of Skin Cleanser. All I use is Allies of Skin; I don’t use anything else. I get the products for free but they have literally changed my skin. I use the CE15 bakuchiol oil, mix it with the night cream, lather it up on my face and go to sleep.
Tuesday I’m on the set. I wake up at 4am and immediately take a shower. When I go to work I don’t put any products on my face, I just go clean. I wash my hair because I think it’s easier to work with fresh hair.
I work all day and then I have to get on a plane. I rush home and shower again, washing off my makeup. On days when I wear a lot of makeup to work, I use a makeup-removing balm and then I go in with a face wash. I use this Farmacy balm that removes all of the eye makeup and dissolves it really well.
I’m a prepacker. I packed days in advance so I just grab my bag and head out the door. My lips get very dry when I travel, so when I travel by plane I use the Laneige Sleeping Mask, lather it up on my lips and go to sleep knowing I’ll be waking up in New York.
The red eyes to New York always sounds like a good idea… but it’s actually a terrible idea because you only get about four hours to sleep. But I wake up in New York, which I like.
It’s very hot, so I shower and put on lotion. I know that I will walk a lot today. I take classes here in New York. I go straight from school to dinner so I keep stuff in my bag. I’ll do my makeup in the car in about five minutes. There’s a bit of YSL Touche Éclat under my eyes, then the Rouge Volupté Shine on my lips. I spray on my daisy perfume to refresh myself.
I go home and do my night routine. I also drink a cup of mint tea; I try to have a cup of spearmint tea with honey every night.
I wake up early and have a Zoom call. My Zoom routine isn’t to shower, it’s to make it look like I’ve had a shower. I brush my hair, sometimes I run a blow dryer through it. I put on a little makeup, the top half of a decent outfit, and stay in my sweatpants or pajamas.
I have classes again. The classes I take are in Brooklyn, so I walk there. It’s like five miles, but it’s really nice. It’s beautiful here and I like to go for walks. Also, I drink three Hydro Flasks per day, so lots and lots of water.
I come home, get ready for bed and go to sleep. Christophe Robin has a really good hair mask, so sometimes I put it on and sleep in it.
On Friday I go to Washington Square Park. When I moved to New York I hung out there all the time because the kids my age went to college there. I go for a walk there and I love it in the summer when everyone is outside.
I’m meeting up with my friend Nico who I made American Horror Story with and my friend Travis who is here and staying with me. We get matcha, sit in the park and catch up.
For dinner I go to Via Carota, which is very classic New York. It is very good. After that, I’m going to a concert, so I try a little harder to get ready. I blow dry my hair. My hair is actually naturally curly. Usually I’ll either curl it with the Dyson Airwrap – I’m not good at doing my hair and this will do for you – or I’ll just let it air dry. I might go in and add a few bends with my straighter. I put on pants, a vest, boots and some Daisy.
My friend’s concert at Terminal 5 is really fun. Being able to see live music again is really nice and refreshing. Then I go home and go to sleep. It’s later than usual – but I never, ever sleep with makeup on.
Saturday morning I go out in my pajamas to get sandwiches. I’m coming back, shower. I have a Zoom meeting so I’m getting ready to do the abbreviated version of what I usually do. I apply moisturizer, some Rouge Volupté Shine and brush my eyebrows.
I walk across the Williamsburg Bridge and back.
Then I go to a theater called circle jerk. It’s not what it sounds like, but it’s also exactly what it sounds like. It was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize – it really is a work of genius. I like dressing up for the theater, I think it’s really fun. I curl my hair and put on some daisy. I don’t wear heels in New York because I walk everywhere. Instead, I’m wearing my trusty Celine boots. You have taken me far.
I go home, drink my tea and go to bed.
