CALCOT & SPA, THE COTSWOLDS

If you’re looking for Cotswolds for children, the answer is Calcot & Spa, which has just added The Cottage to its superb range of rooms and suites. Split over two floors, with two large en-suite bedrooms, Scandi chic lounge, pantry (the fresh leaven is a lovely welcome) and courtyard garden with your own fire pit, it is the perfect family home. Everyone is made to feel welcome at the hotel, and the Playbarn offers a treasure trove of toys and entertainment for babies through to teens. Nannies also offer parents a break. But the outside is most appealing: The teepee in the meadow has games, there’s Frisbee golf, mountain bike trails, and a charming children’s playground with a mud kitchen. The immaculate spa isn’t just for adults. At the heart of the courtyard hot tub is a fire and two stunning swimming pools (one indoor, one outdoor) and a baby pool for little splashers. The Conservatory offers imaginative meals from breakfast to dinner, as well as classic pub fare at the family-friendly Gumstool Inn. And baby listening services or pre-booked babysitters mean you don’t have to rush the cheese course. Ben Turner

CABU, KENT

My recipe for the perfect vacation is simple: moderate heat, water, a sun lounger, and a stack of books. In between sleeping, swimming and silence. Then came Wilfie – very loud, very fast, angry at times. Holidays as we knew them were over. After our first trip, a disastrous week of sleepless nights and days dragging an alabaster-skinned baby out of the sun, sea and restaurant tables, we vowed never again. A year passed and we felt brave enough to try again. This time to Cabu: 20 luxury cabins on Romney Marsh in Kent, highly recommended by numerous friends with numerous children. It was perfect. Charming, immaculate, well-appointed cabins, blackout blinds (if you know you know), a pool, outdoor kitchen with pizza oven and grills, sauna, hot tub, and tiny shop full of delicious food and drinks, all within easy reach of the baby monitor and just a few steps from the beach. We’ll be coming back. rose beer

THE BERKELEY, LONDON

Stays in the city with kids can often be a hot mess, which is why it’s best left to the experts at The Berkeley to keep things cool, calm, and collected. Guests have exclusive access to the hotel’s glass-fronted rooftop pool, but there’s also kids’ yoga on request, Berkeley Bikes to ride around Hyde Park, and Haute Patisserie courtesy of Cédric Grolet for little ones. Smart touches in the rooms make your stay even more enjoyable — from Berkeley teddies to the requisite milk and cookies before bed — and a concierge team that handles requests with more expertise than Mary Poppins. Can’t quite reach the hotel? Try the Berkeley Breakfast in Bed Delivery Service: A five-star, hotel-style breakfast with all the trimmings delivered to your door, lovingly wrapped in brown paper bags with handwritten labels. Practically perfect in every way. Dipal Acharya
